ClassNK ZETA

ClassNK ZETA — Zero Emission Transition Accelerator — is the emissions management tool the Japanese classification society offers to owners, managers and charterers of classed vessels. It reads from the ClassNK MRV Portal, where fuel consumption and other DCS and EU-MRV data already sit, and turns it into current CO2 emissions and CII ratings for individual ships and whole fleets, so a manager can see which vessels are drifting toward a rating they cannot recover. ClassNK says it is used on more than 5,000 ships.

The analytical layer is simulation rather than reporting. ZETA models how a ship or fleet would score under counterfactuals such as slow steaming, installing energy-saving devices, or changing fuel and ship allocation, and compares a ship's CII rating against similar ships by type, size and age. It handles EU ETS emissions monitoring, allowance management and EUA purchase inquiries, and FuelEU Maritime fuel, energy and GHG intensity tracking, and it can report against frameworks such as the Poseidon Principles for shipowners, charterers, financial institutions and cargo owners.

It is a class society's emissions tool, not a voyage management system: usage starts with an application to ClassNK, shipowners and charterers need data-use permission from the ship management company that submitted the data, and ClassNK states its verification services stay independent of the tool. Voyage optimization is reachable through ZETA but is supplied by vendors such as NAPA.
